Power Words and Programs
Bringing up children – you would think that nothing changes but after spending time looking after my grandchildren I realized how much things have really changed.
Giving that I had never looked after my grandson before and I was going to be the sole carer for 3 weeks while my daughter and family were on a cruise around the world, my daughter gave me a reference guide that she has used for her Nannies before. Thank goodness she was so organized.
Now I know what to do with the changing nappies, feeding and playing, but what is this “Power word” and “Programmed Sleep Song”?
We never had the advantages that the mothers have these days. Dr Spock was the only reference guide in my time. There is so much out there to read and learn, and I know my daughter had done just that. Read everything there was on how to bring up well balanced and happy children, and looking at her children, she was obviously doing something right.
So I read with gusto what there was in her guide so I could continue with the patterns already set with my Grandson.
“UH UH – Power word, there is no coming back from this word. When Xavier does something wrong just say UH UH and he will stop” writes my daughter.
My first day with Xavier was quite a big one, flying from New York to Florida and onto our Apartment, arriving at 7.00 at night with a 10 month old, it was quite a day.
Arriving I decided to give him a bath and bottle and put him to bed. Well, pop him in the bath and what is it – a spa bath – and the first thing Xavier went to do was put his finger in the hole in the spa bath. I said UH UH and he looked up at me and frowned. Oh I was so taken back but remember this is his “Power Word”. He pulled his hand away and then after a few moments put his finger up again to the hole in the bath, I looked at him and he pulled it away and never tried again. Wow, I thought this really works.
I can tell you that when it came to bed time, you can bet I used that “Programmed Sleep Song”.
My three weeks with Xavier were the best I have ever had, what a beautiful baby and how easy was that, using the programs that were already instilled in his world.
From the moment we are born we take on board many many programs, so when bringing up children make sure they are ones you want to help your children to be all they can be and also make life happy for the whole family.
